Where is TBTR?
Located on 40 wooded acres in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of North Central Arkansas. 12 miles south of the town of Mountain View, off of State Highway 9.
Directions to The Broom Tree Refuge
If coming from the south west (E.g. from Dallas):
Coming from I-30 into Little Rock, take I-430 North (this by-passes Little Rock) to I-40. Go WEST on I-40 toward Ft. Smith (I know this feels wrong, but you are actually heading North.).
Take I-40 to Conway (about 20 miles or so) and take the third Conway exit on US 65 North. Watch your speed going through all the towns on 65 as they seem to enforce the speed limit pretty well. I have seen lots of cars stopped.
Take 65 North for 39.4 miles to Clinton (Clinton is the last place to get meals if you are hungry (at least until you get to our place).and State Hwy 9 North which is a right turn off of 65 (also 16 I believe – but you will be staying on 9 all the way to our road.) This is a windy road and you need to pay attention to the speed limits for safety. Stay on 9 for 17.3 miles through SHIRLEY (not much here except steep, windy roads), through RUSHING (I am not even sure if there are any buildings in Rushing besides a Church and a graveyard) to the junction of Hwy 263. Stay on 9 (don’t miss the turn and accidentally take hwy 263).
AFTER ABOUT 7.3 MILES, from the above intersection, you will come to SUNNY FOX ROAD– which is gravel –It is right at the crest of a hill so watch for oncoming cars. It is difficult to see the Sunny Fox Road sign since you are looking at it edge on. There is a road off to the right about ¼ mile before you get to Sunny Fox Road called Sunnyland Road. When you see that road, begin slowing down. It will be a left turn off of hwy 9.
THE TURN ONTO SUNNY FOX ROAD CAN BE DANGEROUS IF CARS ARE COMING SINCE IT IS ON THE CREST OF A HILL AND A BLIND CORNER WITH A TURN OFF TO THE LEFT. THE NEW NAME FOR THIS ROAD IS SUNNY FOX ROAD AND THERE IS A ROAD SIGN WITH THAT NAME ON THE BOTH ENTRANCES TO THE ROAD. THE SECOND ENTRANCE IS ABOUT 100 FEET FURTHER – IT IS A ‘Y’ ENTRANCE. THE ENTRANCE IS ON A BLIND CURVE SO WATCH FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
Take the county road for 2.6 miles. There are a few places where the road forks – ALWAYS go left when there is a fork in the road (but don’t turn left on Julie Rae road which is a left turn – not a fork in the road!). There you will see our mailbox and a sign for The Broom Tree Refuge. Turn left at the mail box and follow the road onto our property (about .4 mile) and you are here. You will see a sign on the drive giving options – go to 4001 (Rays and Broom Tree)
IF COMING FROM THE WEST (E.G. FT SMITH):
Take I-40 East to Conway and follow the above directions from Conway.
IF COMING FROM THE EAST (E.G. MEMPHIS):
Take I-40 West to Conway and follow the above directions from Conway.
IF YOU ARE COIMING FROM THE NORTH:
Find your way to Mountain View, Arkansas. Take State Hwy. 9 South. About 8.7 miles south of the center town, you will come to County Road 16 also called Sunny Fox Road. Turn right. Take county road for 2.6 miles (there are a few places where the road forks – ALWAYS go left when there is a choice. There you will see our mailbox. Turn left at the mail box and follow the road onto our property (about .4 mile) and you are here. You will see a sign on the drive giving options – go to 4001 (Rays and Broom Tree)
